NEW CASTLE - Arlene K. Wetzel, 64, of 206 E. Northview Ave., New Castle, Pa. 16105, died Sunday morning, Nov. 2, 2003, at her residence.
Born April 17, 1939, in Sewickley, a daughter of the late Arley L. and Nellie Miles Bacorn, she was an English, French and journalism teacher at the Neshannock School District, retiring in 1997 after 24 years of service. A graduate of Ambridge High School, she was a 1961 graduate of Slippery Rock University and had done graduate work at the University of Buffalo and Youngstown State University. She was a member of the New Castle French Club and was a volunteer with the Lawrence County Habitat for Humanity and the Meals on Wheels program. She was a member of the Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church, where she served on the board of deacons and was a member of the Tri-M Sunday School Class. Surviving were her husband, Judd F. Wetzel, whom she married Sept. 5, 1959; a daughter, Diana Marousek, Alexandria, Va.; two sons, Eric Wetzel, Indiana, Pa., and Darren Wetzel, Boston, Mass.; a brother, James Bacorn, Piedmont, S.C.; four grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Bacorn. Friends were received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the R. Cunningham Funeral Home Inc., Wilmington Road, New Castle, where a service was conducted Thursday at 11:30 a.m. The Rev. Velis Vais, of the Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church, officiated. Interment followed in Castle View Cemetery.
